...... to Theodoros and Epi---, who ......, at his own expense ...... and, setting out together with them, he (Akornion) went ... to the father of ... in Argedabon... While he was staying there and met at the same time with ...... he received ...... from him, for the benefit of the city ...... and saved the people (of Dionysopolis).
When he became a priest of the Great Derzalas (?), he administered the processions and sacrifices with splendour and shared the meat with the citizens. And when he attained the office of priest of Serapis, he likewise bore the expenses with nobility and generosity.
And when Dionysus, the eponymous deity of the city, had gone without a priest for many years, he, at the request of the citizens, dedicated himself to this office as well, and, having taken upon himself the crown of the priesthood of this god during Gaius Antonius’ winter encampment, he administered the processions and sacrifices with nobility and splendour and shared the meat generously with the citizens.
And after having assumed for life the crown of the priesthood of the Samothracian Gods, he administrates the processions and sacrifices for them in behalf of the initiates and the city. And recently, after King Byrebistas became the first and supreme among the Thracian Kings and gained control of the entire land beyond the river (Istros), as well as of the land on this side, he (Akornion) became his foremost and greatest friend and always serves his home city in the best possible way, speaking to the King and giving him most effective advice, and with his words directs the King’s favour for the welfare of the city.
Moreover, in all other matters, he gives himself wholeheartedly to missions on behalf of the city and takes on the dangers himself without hesitation, doing everything in his power to accomplish whatever might be advantageous to his home city. Thus, when he was sent by King Byrebistas as an envoy to the Roman imperator (commander) Gnaeus Pompeius, son of Gnaeus, and met with him in Macedonia near Heraclea on the Lycus (i.e. Heraclea Lyncestis), he not only successfully conducted the negotiations on behalf of the king, winning the Romans’ goodwill toward the king, but also secured the most favourable terms for his homeland.
And in general, under any circumstances, he devotes himself body and soul to the cause of the city, providing all expenses out of his own estate and personally covering some of the public costs as well; in this way, he does his utmost to ensure the welfare of his home city.
Therefore, in order to make it clear that the people (of Dionysopolis) honour good and valiant men and their benefactors, let the Council and the Assembly resolve to praise Akornion, son of Dionysius, for all these things, and to award him with a golden crown at the Dionysia, and to erect a bronze statue in his honour; and that he be crowned annually at the Dionysia with a golden crown henceforth; furthermore, that the most prominent place in the agora be designated for the erection of his statue.
